Between the Light

長谷川博子 / Hiroko HASEGAWA

Exhibition Dates|September 11 (Thu) – September 28 (Sun), 2025
Open|Thursday – Sunday, 11:00–18:00

MJK Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Hiroko Hasegawa.

Hasegawa’s practice draws upon subtle shifts and fleeting tremors embedded in the everyday, casting new light onto the familiar.

Originally trained in textiles and long engaged in painting, Hasegawa has in recent years expanded her practice into ceramics. Among the works on view are ceramic pieces distinguished by dome-like forms that encase small human figures and translucent pools. As light enters these structures, shadows emerge within, and the ceramic medium is reimagined—not merely as a vessel, but as a device that absorbs and refracts both light and space.

In this exhibition, paintings and ceramic objects are installed in dialogue, drifting within the interstices of light and shadow, translucency and reflection. Through this interplay, they evoke subtle strata of time and vitality, awakening faint traces that lie dormant within us and reframing the contours of everyday life.

Feeling the insistent strength of a beetle pressing against my palm, I recall the fragile cicada wing that may have bent because of me.

This time I have been thinking about living beings and plants as I worked. The exhibition presents ceramic objects alongside paintings.
