Collaboration Exhibition
This is a collaborative exhibition by "Before a trace," a unit consisting of SuzuEri, Takako Minekawa, and Takaaki Kawaguchi. SuzuEri creates layered sound art works that combine light and sound, such as communicating by overlapping sound with the light of a bulb or making a piano play based on the flight patterns of birds.

Musician Takako Minekawa and sound artist Takaaki Kawaguchi have, in the past, performed actions with ambiguous outlines, which are neither improvisational performances nor live installations, at festivals like the Awazu Kiyoshi Residence and Art Site Kouzushima. They have accumulated these actions as the "before" of the "trace." In this exhibition, they will present the "after" of the "before the trace" within SuzuEri's artwork, offering it as a quiet, atmospheric story.

Statement
The river flows to the sea, and the road continues to a past catastrophe. In a gallery that seems to be between the Sumida River and the Hama Kaido, it is a two-week journey of light and sound, leaving traces that connect the past and the future.

Behind the MJK Gallery flows the Sumida River, which was used in the Edo period for water transport to carry rice. The gallery faces Route 6, a significant land route connecting Edo with Mito and Sendai, known as the Hama Kaido. This Hama Kaido continues to Fukushima Hamadori. With important routes for both water and land transport, and the Edo Shogunate's rice warehouse (Asakusa Okura), this place became known as Kuramae.

Before a trace (Takako Minekawa + Takahiro Kawaguchi)

Formed in March 2023, the group was inspired by words uttered by Minekawa during a duo concert at Permian that resembled fragments of a story. Using Kawaguchi's self-made instruments as tools to influence the space and Minekawa's presence as an aura, they attempt to create landscapes centered around sound.
