MJK Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Ryoten Ogata titled "1/356000."

Ryoten Ogata is a rising artist known for his works that use the sea as a motif, exploring the relationship between humans and nature. Through various perspectives, he re-examines the boundaries with nature, transforms the way we perceive existing landscapes, and creates a unique production process based on technological methods.

In this exhibition, Ogata develops his approach of using memory devices in his artwork, presenting pieces created through physical and meteorological analysis and research based on his experiences. The production process, utilizing drones, meticulously analyzes the physical generation of waves, capturing the actual sea through aspects such as geographical coordinates, wind speed, wind direction, and wave flow.

Moreover, the peripheral environments, from rocky shores to the local climate, are integrated into his work process through actual fieldwork, as seen through Ogata's own eyes. Ogata, who says, "Observation and research are dry acts," creates works that challenge humanity's instinctual attitude to understand and control the natural environment, capturing the mystery, incomprehensibility, and awe of nature beyond human understanding.

The coastline, the boundary between land and sea, spans 356,000 kilometers worldwide. The title "1/356000" reflects Ogata's attitude toward his work, consistently documenting each segment of the world's coastlines without any special emotions towards specific locations, presenting them as mere "1/356000" units of data, capturing the ever-changing coastline in real-time. This observational act, realized as artworks, evokes urgent environmental issues linked to global consciousness, prompting viewers to reconsider the relationship between nature and humanity.
