This painting series, "Foresight dream", explores the theme of how human activities contribute to global pandemics. During the years of confinement caused by the outbreak of COVID-19, we seemed to sense an impending end of the world. Through the simple act of “returning home,” we gained new awareness of the profound impact human activities have had on Earth's biosphere. Many of us struggled with the challenges of staying in the same place and living the same way over an extended period.
To live as a living being is not an isolated act; it depends on symbiotic relationships with other diverse organisms within Earth's environment. Humans are also part of the long history of co-creation between the Earth’s environment and its life forms.
When I think about the world I live in today, the concepts of national borders or boundaries dissolve, leaving only the vast Earth environment before us. By humbly acknowledging and engaging with this reality, I continue to create my work.
Note:
The global lockdowns led to an unprecedented halt in economic activity, which resulted in environmental improvements around the world. In Venice, murky canals turned clear, and fish returned. In India and China, air pollution lessened, revealing blue skies that were rarely seen before.
The term "holobiont" was introduced by evolutionary theorist Lynn Margulis. It refers to a state where multiple different organisms exist in a symbiotic relationship, forming an inseparable, unified whole.
